The Forest Department has denied permission to shoot Mohanlal’s upcoming film at Sabarimala Sannidhanam and surrounding areas. The film, titled ‘Athimanoharam’, is directed by Tharun Moorthy and features Mohanlal in the lead role.

According to the position of the Forest Department, permission for shooting has been denied at the Sannidhanam and nearby areas as the temple area falls within the Periyar Tiger Reserve. The department has stated that shooting is not permitted in this zone.

However, permission has been granted for filming in areas that fall under the Ranni Forest Division. The area up to Pampa comes under the Ranni Forest Division. Based on this, shooting will take place tomorrow in locations before Pampa.

The makers had earlier decided to shoot key portions of ‘Athimanoharam’ at Sabarimala. The film is Tharun Moorthy’s next project with Mohanlal after ‘Thudarum’. The Travancore Devaswom Board had earlier given permission to the film team to shoot in areas from Pampa to Sannidhanam.

The permission from the Devaswom Board was given with the condition that strict special terms must be followed during filming in the area. According to the position of the Devaswom Board, one of the main directives is that the film must not portray Sabarimala or religious beliefs in a poor light.

The denial by the Forest Department means that the crew will now have to limit shooting to the areas permitted under the Ranni division, and will not be able to film at the Sannidhanam as originally planned.
