**Kozhikode:**The Kozhikode District Disaster Management Authority has issued a high alert along the district’s coastline following a forecast of rough seas and strong swells due to the Kallakkadal phenomenon. As a precaution, entry to all beaches in the district has been completely banned for 24 hours.

According to an order issued by the District Collector, public access to beaches including Beypore will be prohibited from 12:00 AM on August 19 to 12:00 AM on August 20. The ban applies to tourists, visitors, and vendors. Authorities have also prohibited swimming, wading into the sea, and approaching the shoreline during this period.

The warning is based on inputs from ocean monitoring agencies. Between 2:30 AM on August 19 and 5:30 PM on August 20, waves with a height of 1.2 to 1.9 meters and a wave period of 16 to 21 seconds are likely. Officials say such swells can cause sudden sea surges, coastal inundation, shoreline erosion, and damage to fishing boats anchored near the coast.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea and to avoid launching small and traditional boats. Vessels at Beypore Port, Koyilandy Harbour, and other fishing landing centers have been directed to be moored securely at a safe distance from each other.

To ensure compliance, the Fisheries Department will make announcements through loudspeakers in coastal areas of Beypore, Koyilandy, and other fishing hamlets. Coastal Police, Marine Enforcement, the Beypore Regional Port Officer, and Fisheries Department officials have been tasked with intensifying surveillance along the shoreline.

The restrictions will remain in force until midnight on August 20 or until the warning is withdrawn. The District Disaster Management Authority warned that strict action will be taken under relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act against those who violate the safety directives.Residents have been urged to stay away from the coast and follow updates from local authorities.
