**Dubai:** Expats across the Gulf are set to benefit from public holidays announced in connection with the Prophet’s Birthday, with the UAE, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain observing holidays for the occasion. Depending on the country and the regular weekend schedule, some residents will get a three-day break, while those working in Sharjah could enjoy up to four consecutive days off.

The Prophet’s Birthday is traditionally observed on Rabi’ al-Awwal 12, the 12th day of the third month of the Islamic Hijri calendar. Following the beginning of the new Hijri month on the 14th, this year’s observance falls on Tuesday, August 25.

In the UAE, public and private-sector employees have been granted a holiday on August 28 in connection with the occasion. With the holiday combined with the Friday break and the regular Saturday and Sunday weekend, UAE residents can enjoy a three-day consecutive break.

Employees working in Sharjah are expected to benefit from an even longer break, with four consecutive days off starting Thursday. The extended holiday could provide expats with an opportunity to spend quality time with family, make short travel plans, or visit friends and relatives.

In Oman, the public holiday has been announced for Thursday, August 27. Since Friday and Saturday are regular weekend holidays, residents, including expats, will get a three-day break.

Kuwait: Holiday on August 27

Government institutions in Kuwait will observe the Prophet’s Birthday holiday on Thursday, August 27. The announcement will provide a break for government-sector employees, including a large number of expatriate workers.

In Bahrain, the public holiday for the Prophet’s Birthday falls on Tuesday, August 25. The holiday was announced under an order issued by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The holiday announcements are welcome news for the large expatriate community across the Gulf, including thousands of Indian and Malayalam-speaking residents. While the exact holiday dates vary from one country to another, the combination of public holidays and regular weekends will give many expats an opportunity to relax, spend time with their families and plan short trips during the break.
