**Kozhikode:** A second death has shocked residents of Vilangad and Naripatta after a man reportedly died of a heart attack following the death of his relative in a wild buffalo attack. Jijeesh, 34, a native of Veliyeri in Vadakke Vayad, Naripatta, died after suffering chest pain at the house of his relative V.C. Sunil on Saturday night.

Jijeesh was reportedly at Sunil’s residence following Sunil’s death in a wild buffalo attack earlier that day when he experienced severe chest pain. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in Vadakara for treatment. However, doctors could not save him. His body is currently kept at the private hospital in Vadakara.

Jijeesh was working as an attendant at Vattoli Government LP School and was unmarried. He was the son of Darappan and Ammini. His siblings are Manoj, who is a teacher, and Jiji.

Sunil, a native of Vayad and an employee of the Chengannur court, was killed in a wild buffalo attack in Vilangad on Saturday. The incident occurred when Sunil reportedly attempted to drive away a wild buffalo that had entered a residential area. The animal attacked him, causing serious injuries.

Sunil was immediately taken to the Kuttiady Taluk Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. He was reportedly scheduled to return to Chengannur on Sunday after his leave.

Sunil’s death triggered protests among local residents, who expressed anger over the recurring presence of the wild buffalo in the area. During the protest, locals reportedly detained DFO M. Joshil, who had reached the location after being informed about the incident.

Following the protest, K.M. Abhijith MLA and the panchayat president reached the spot and held discussions with the residents. The protest was subsequently called off after talks with the authorities.

Sunil’s funeral was held on Sunday. MLA K.M. Abhijith said that a decision would be taken soon regarding compensation for Sunil’s family and that all possible support would be ensured. Authorities also said that the demand of local residents to tranquilise and capture the wild buffalo, which has been repeatedly entering populated areas, would be considered.

The two deaths within a short period have intensified concerns among residents about the recurring threat posed by wild animals entering human settlements in the Vilangad region.
