The Local Bank Officer position offers candidates an opportunity to build a career in the banking sector with a major public sector financial institution. Applicants who meet the prescribed educational qualification, work experience, age and language requirements can apply for the post.

The vacancies are distributed across various states. There are 49 vacancies in Kerala, 418 in Karnataka, 132 in Tamil Nadu and 21 in Goa. Gujarat has the highest number of vacancies, with 1,185 posts.

In Kerala, the 49 vacancies are distributed among different categories. These include 16 General, 12 Scheduled Caste, 11 Other Backward Classes, six Scheduled Tribe and four Economically Weaker Section vacancies.

Candidates must possess a degree from a recognised university and should have at least one year of experience working as an officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank or an equivalent bank included in the Second Schedule of the Reserve Bank of India Act.

Applicants must also possess the required Mutual Fund Distributors Certification or an equivalent qualification, as prescribed in the recruitment notification.Another important requirement is knowledge of the local language. Candidates must be able to read, write and speak the regional language of the state for which they are applying.

Candidates must be between 21 and 30 years of age as on August 1, 2026.

Relaxation in the upper age limit will be available to eligible reserved-category candidates as per government rules. Other Backward Class candidates will receive three years of relaxation, while Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates will receive five years. Candidates belonging to the applicable benchmark disability category can receive up to 10 years of relaxation, with additional relaxation applicable in certain reserved-category combinations.

Eligible ex-servicemen will also receive age-related benefits according to the applicable rules.

The selection process will include an Online Test, Language Proficiency Test and Psychometric Test or another equivalent test suitable for the recruitment process. Candidates who qualify at the required stages will be shortlisted for the subsequent Group Discussion and Interview.

The selection process is designed to assess candidates' banking knowledge, reasoning and aptitude, local-language proficiency, personality and suitability for the Local Bank Officer role.

The online examination will be an objective multiple-choice test with a duration of two hours. The examination will carry a total of 120 marks.

Candidates who qualify in the online test will have to appear for the Language Proficiency Test (LPT). The LPT is intended to assess the candidate's basic proficiency in the regional language of the state selected during the application process.

Candidates who have studied the concerned local language as a subject in their SSLC or Higher Secondary examination will not be required to appear for the Language Proficiency Test.

After this stage, candidates will undergo the prescribed Psychometric Test or an equivalent assessment, followed by the interview and other applicable selection stages. These assessments are intended to evaluate candidates' attitude towards work, communication skills, problem-solving ability and overall suitability for the position.

Based on the performance in the applicable stages, a state-wise merit list will be prepared for the recruitment.

Other Important Details

An important feature of the Local Bank Officer position is the possibility of transfer after completing 12 years of service or receiving a promotion during the period, subject to the bank's applicable rules. Eligible employees may then get an opportunity to move from the state of initial posting and work in their home state or hometown, as per the prescribed conditions.

Candidates with knowledge of the Konkani language can apply for vacancies in Goa.

For candidates applying from Kerala, online examination centres are available in Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram. Examination centres are also available in locations including Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Udupi, Mysuru, Coimbatore, Vellore and Kanyakumari/Nagercoil, subject to the availability of centres.

The application fee, including applicable taxes, is ₹850 for general applicants. Women candidates, Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates, persons with benchmark disabilities and eligible ex-servicemen will have to pay ₹175.
