**New Delhi: **The Communist Party of India will hold its ‘Delhi Chalo’ rally in the national capital on Tuesday, raising the slogan ‘Change Is Inevitable’ in protest against what the party describes as anti-people policies of the Central government.

A public meeting at Ramlila Maidan is scheduled to begin at 11 am. CPI General Secretary D. Raja and members of the party’s National Secretariat are expected to address the gathering and express solidarity with the protesters.The rally is being organised around a series of demands concerning the economy, employment, public services, farmers, workers and electoral reforms. Among the key demands are measures to control rising prices, guarantee employment, strengthen public healthcare and education, implement women’s reservation, and ensure minimum support prices (MSP) for agricultural produce.

The CPI is also demanding stronger protection for workers’ rights and social justice for Dalits and Adivasis. Another major demand raised by the party is the restoration of ballot paper-based voting.The party has alleged that attempts are being made to prevent its supporters from reaching Delhi for the protest. According to the CPI, several people have been arrested in different parts of the country. In Uttar Pradesh, police have allegedly placed 10 district secretaries under preventive detention.

CPI General Secretary D. Raja has reportedly written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, protesting against what he described as the unjust detention of party workers and seeking an end to such measures.The party has also alleged that trains booked by supporters from five states, including Kerala, were cancelled, affecting plans to travel to Delhi for the rally.

The CPI's mobilisation comes amid continued political protests by opposition parties over economic and social issues. In March last year, the CPI(M)-led Jan Aakrosh Rally was held at Ramlila Maidan with participation from people from several northern states. The organisers had also alleged attempts to restrict participation at the time, but the rally eventually drew a large gathering.

With the CPI expected to raise a broad range of economic, social and political issues at Ramlila Maidan, Tuesday’s Delhi Chalo rally is likely to draw attention to the party’s opposition to the policies of the Central government and its call for political change.
