The protest was held jointly by Congress workers and the Doma Parishad Confederation on Tuesday. Protesters raised slogans asserting that the country should move forward based on the Indian Constitution rather than the Manusmriti. Demonstrators gathered outside the RSS office and burned copies of the Manusmriti along with symbolic RSS uniforms as part of the protest.

Udit Raj said the demonstration was inspired by Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s burning of the Manusmriti in 1927 as a protest against caste-based inequality. He alleged that the RSS and the government were attempting to replace the principles of the Constitution with outdated social laws associated with the Manusmriti.

According to Udit Raj, the purification ceremony allegedly held after Kharge’s public meeting was evidence that untouchability and caste discrimination continue to persist in society. He said such an act amounted to an insult to the Dalit community as well as the country’s democratic system and could not be tolerated.

The protest led to heightened tension in the area. In view of the situation, Delhi Police strengthened security around the RSS headquarters. Udit Raj and several other protesters were subsequently taken to the Paharganj police station.

The demonstration comes amid a broader political debate over caste discrimination, constitutional values and the legacy of the Manusmriti. The protesters maintained that the principles of equality and social justice guaranteed by the Indian Constitution should remain the foundation of governance and public life.
