**Kochi: **The Kochi Metro Rail Limited has clarified that there is no underground section planned as part of Kochi Metro Phase 3, rejecting reports that the proposed metro corridor would pass underground near Kochi Airport.

According to KMRL, the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the third phase proposes a fully elevated metro corridor covering 18.09 kilometres. The DPR has already been submitted to the Kerala government and is currently under consideration.

Kochi Metro Phase 3 has been proposed as an extension from Aluva to Angamaly via Nedumbassery and the airport area. KMRL had earlier submitted the proposed alignment of the corridor to the state government for approval.

Reports had suggested that the proposed metro route would run above the road from Aluva to Kariyad and then pass underground through the airport area before continuing towards Angamaly. KMRL has now categorically rejected this information, stating that the DPR does not include any underground metro section.

Among the four alignment options examined for the proposed Phase 3 corridor, the airport route is currently under consideration. The proposed line is expected to connect several important residential, commercial and transport hubs between Aluva, Kochi Airport and Angamaly.

As per the proposed alignment, the corridor will have 15 stations. These include Thottakkattukara, Kunnumpuram, Parambayam, Nedumbassery, Athani, Kariyad, Airport Railway Station, Airport, Nayathode, Kavara Parambu, Arickal Junction, LF Hospital, Angamaly Town, Kothakulangara and Karayamparambu.

The proposed Phase 3 corridor is expected to strengthen metro connectivity between Aluva, the airport region and Angamaly. However, the final alignment and implementation of the project will depend on the state government's consideration and approval of the DPR.

KMRL's latest clarification puts to rest speculation regarding an underground metro section near Kochi Airport and confirms that the 18.09-kilometre Phase 3 corridor has been planned entirely as an elevated route in the current DPR.
