London: The Pakistan Cricket Board has taken major decisions following the team’s disappointing performance in the ongoing Test series against England. After Pakistan suffered defeats in the first two matches of the series, the board has recalled seven players and members of the coaching staff back to Pakistan. The move comes amid growing concerns over the team’s performance and preparations during the England tour.

Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, Imam-ul-Haq, Ali Usman, Aamer Jamal, Mohammad Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad are among those sent back home. The PCB has also made significant changes to the squad by bringing in five players who have yet to make their international debuts.

Arafat Minhas, Mohammad Imran Junior, Saad Baig, Mohammad Imran Randhawa and Razabullah have been added to the squad. In addition, Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal, who have played only a combined total of 10 international matches, have also been brought into the team.

The PCB has further strengthened the Test coaching setup by adding white-ball coaches Mike Hesson and Ashley Noffke to the support staff. The changes underline the seriousness with which the board is responding to Pakistan’s poor results in the series.

Amid the sudden developments, one prominent Pakistan player reportedly believed that the initial reports about his removal from the squad were fake news. According to reports, several players did not even know that they had been dropped until friends and relatives began contacting them at around 5 pm on Monday. Since it was a day off for the team, many players were reportedly away from their accommodation when the decision was announced.

Meanwhile, the PCB has sought an explanation from the selection committee over the inclusion of Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq. The board has reportedly asked the committee to provide a written explanation within 24 hours, outlining the reasons and selection process behind including the two experienced players.

Adding to the drama, former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq has resigned from his position as a selector. He is also reportedly considering stepping down from his role as batting consultant at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore.
