> **Thiruvananthapuram: **A protest by the Students’ Federation of India in Thiruvananthapuram turned tense after police allegedly used force against demonstrators, with several student activists reportedly sustaining injuries. The protest was organised against what the SFI described as the “saffronisation” of universities and alleged attempts to introduce an RSS agenda into academic institutions.

During a march towards the Secretariat, police allegedly resorted to a lathicharge against the protesters. SFI state secretary P S Sanjeevan reportedly suffered physical discomfort after being struck in the chest with a police baton and was subsequently shifted to a hospital for medical attention.

The SFI alleged that the police response amounted to excessive force against students. Protests were also organised at district headquarters across Kerala, where demonstrators claimed that similar police action took place. According to the organisation, water cannons were used four times during the protests, while several SFI activists were detained and removed from the protest sites.

The protests followed an incident at the University of Kerala during National Sports Day observances. The SFI had organised a march to the university headquarters in protest against the full rendition of Vande Mataram, which the organisation alleged was carried out in accordance with an RSS agenda.

The SFI further alleged that police attacked the march without provocation and that male police personnel used force against women students who participated in the demonstration.SFI central committee member Arya Prasad reportedly lost consciousness after sustaining a head injury during the lathicharge. State secretariat member Vaishnavi Shaji suffered a serious injury below her eye, while district committee member Vaishnava reportedly sustained facial injuries that resulted in a loosened tooth.

District committee member S R Niranjan also reportedly suffered a serious head injury. The injured students were taken to Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital and private hospitals for treatment. Several other students were also reported to have sustained injuries during the protests.
