Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Cricket Association has unveiled an ambitious cricket tourism project aimed at bringing major changes to the state's sports and tourism sectors. The association is targeting an initial investment of ₹1,500 crore through private partnerships to develop cricket-focused sports and entertainment destinations across Kerala.

As part of efforts to attract potential investors, KCA will organise a special investor meet in Thiruvananthapuram on the 11th of this month, bringing together leading players from the hospitality, retail and entertainment sectors. Expressions of interest have been invited from potential partners. Further details about the initiative are available on the KCA's official website.

The core objective of the project is to transform cricket stadiums from venues that become active only during matches into year-round sports, entertainment and tourism destinations. The proposed developments will include international-standard clubhouses, sports lounges, restaurants operated by leading brands and modern food courts located around the staThe project will also feature state-of-the-art convention centres designed for business tourism and corporate events. Shopping complexes, sports merchandise hubs, destination wedding venues overlooking cricket grounds, fan parks and a dedicated cricket museum are among the other proposed attractions.

The initiative is expected to create thousands of employment opportunities, with the first phase planned in the state capital. KCA currently owns land at Thaikkad and Mangalapuram in Thiruvananthapuram district, as well as at Ezhukone in Kollam, Thodupuzha, Wayanad and Kasaragod. Land has already been identified in Kochi for a proposed international stadium. Meanwhile, steps are underway to acquire land for new projects in Kozhikode, Thrissur and Pathanamthitta districts.

KCA is moving forward with the project in partnership with leading companies in the hospitality, retail and entertainment sectors. KCA President Adv. Sreejith V. Nair said the project could be launched within this year and is expected to provide significant momentum to Kerala's tourism sector. He also said discussions would soon be held with Tourism Minister P.C. Vishnunath regarding future projects to be developed in collaboration with the state Tourism Department.

KCA Secretary Vinod S. Kumar said the initiative would change the traditional concept of stadiums being used primarily for cricket matches. According to him, KCA stadiums are envisioned as sports tourism hubs that can attract visitors throughout the year.

The association's broader goal is to position Kerala as India's first comprehensive cricket tourism destination, combining cricket, hospitality, entertainment, business events and tourism within an integrated sports infrastructure network.
