Washington: President Donald Trump has made an unusual appearance on a newly released U.S. $1 coin issued as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations. The United States Mint has released the 2026 Semiquincentennial President Donald J. Trump $1 Coin, making it the first circulating U.S. dollar coin to feature a portrait of the sitting president as part of the anniversary programme.

The coin was made available through the U.S. Mint in rolls and bags from September 2. A roll containing 25 coins is priced at $61, while a bag containing 100 coins costs $154.50. The coins are minted at the Philadelphia Mint and have a circulating finish.

> Trump’s portrait appears on the obverse, along with the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “1776 ~ 2026.” The reverse features the Presidential Seal, including the eagle, olive branch, arrows and shield. The shield carries the number “250” to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The U.S. Mint says the obverse design was created by Chief Engraver Joseph Menna and was inspired by an official White House photograph taken by Daniel Torok. The coin is part of a series of special changes to U.S. circulating coinage introduced to commemorate the nation’s Semiquincentennial in 2026.

> The coin has attracted attention because of Trump’s portrait, making it a distinctive addition to the commemorative issues associated with the 250th anniversary. The U.S. Mint has also produced a special group of 250,000 coins struck on July 4 with a “July 4th” privy mark. These special coins have been randomly included in some of the rolls and bags offered to collectors.

Although the coin has a golden appearance, it is not made of gold. According to the U.S. Mint, it is composed primarily of copper, with zinc, manganese and nickel, giving it its characteristic golden colour. The coins are legal tender and form part of the historic 2026 U.S. coin programme.
