Srinagar: One terrorist was killed in an encounter with a joint team of security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district. The operation involved the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force , officials said.

According to a PTI report quoting officials, the counter-terror operation was launched after security agencies received information about the movement of a group of terrorists from Pakherpora in Pulwama district towards the Yusmarg area of Budgam.

Following the intelligence input, security forces launched a coordinated operation to track down the suspected group. The operation eventually led to an exchange of fire between the security personnel and the terrorists in the Budgam area.

During the encounter, one terrorist was killed by the joint security team. Following the exchange of fire, security personnel conducted searches in and around the encounter site as part of efforts to ensure that no other members of the group remained in the area.

Security forces recovered an AK-47 rifle and other weapons and ammunition from the site of the encounter. The recovered material is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.Officials said security personnel are continuing search operations in the surrounding areas to determine whether any other terrorists are hiding in the region. The operation is also aimed at ensuring that the area has been fully secured following the encounter.

The latest operation comes amid continued counter-terror efforts by security agencies across Jammu and Kashmir. Intelligence inputs regarding the movement of suspected terrorist groups are being closely monitored, with security forces conducting coordinated operations when necessary.

Further details about the identity of the slain terrorist and the weapons recovered are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses. Authorities have not indicated whether any other terrorists were present in the area beyond the group mentioned in the initial intelligence input. Search operations remain underway in parts of Budgam as security agencies continue to assess the situation and conduct further checks in the region.
