**New Delhi:** Two women journalists from the 4PM News Network have alleged that they were assaulted and detained by Delhi Police after attempting to raise questions at an event attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Journalists Shaheen Khan and Nafisa were reportedly taken into custody during the inauguration of a new building at Saket Max Hospital in Delhi on Thursday. According to Shaheen Khan, the journalists were taken to Saket Police Station after they attempted to question the political leaders present at the event.

In a video shared on social media platform X, Shaheen alleged that police personnel physically restrained and assaulted her while she was trying to ask questions. She claimed that security personnel initially stopped her before police officers allegedly dragged her away and took her to the police station.

Shaheen further alleged that the situation became more serious at the police station after officers asked about her identity and learned that she was Muslim. She claimed that the alleged assault continued inside the station.

The video shared by Shaheen also appeared to show fellow journalist Nafisa sitting exhausted on a sofa inside the police station. According to Shaheen, Nafisa sustained injuries and was unable to walk without assistance. She was reportedly helped out of the police station by others.

The allegations have raised fresh concerns over the treatment of journalists while covering public events involving senior political leaders. However, the claims made by the journalists would need to be independently verified, and any response from Delhi Police would be important to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

> 4PM News Network Editor-in-Chief Sanjay Sharma also raised questions over the alleged police action in a post on X.Sharma claimed that the news organisation had repeatedly reported on what it described as “anti-people” policies of the Delhi government and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. He questioned whether the alleged detention and assault could have been connected to the organisation's reporting.

> “Since when did asking questions to those in power become a crime?” Sharma asked while commenting on the incident. The allegations have once again brought the issue of press freedom, journalists' safety and access to public officials into focus. Further details are expected to emerge as the circumstances surrounding the journalists' detention and the allegations against the police are examined.
