Dubai: The UAE has tightened regulations governing employers who hire domestic workers and recruitment agencies involved in their employment. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has issued provisions covering 19 categories of domestic workers, including domestic helpers, drivers and home nurses. Violations of the law can attract fines of up to Dh10 million, along with imprisonment, while the rules clearly define the rights of workers and the responsibilities of employers. 

The provisions also establish mechanisms for resolving disputes between domestic workers and employers through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation’s conciliation system and the courts.
