Muhammad Janish Babu was the son of Muhammad Jaffer and Fathimabi of Hajra Manzil, Chullikkad Parambu, Chakkumkadavu, Kallayi. He had previously worked at a chocolate company in Mabaila. Janish had ended that job four months ago and had returned to his hometown.

He had recently returned to Oman on a temporary visa and was attempting to find employment again. At the time, he was staying in Wadi Kabir.
