**Kannur: **Two brothers and their friend have been sentenced to seven years in prison and fined in a case involving an attempt to murder a young man who had married their sister. The Thaliparamba Additional Sessions District Court sentenced Battali B. Mubarak of Panniyur Pallivayal, Abdullah (Abbooti–44), also of Panniyur, and their friend P. Ibrahim (Umbayi–44) in the case involving an attempt to murder Fazlul Rahman of Olavara Puthanpurayil, Kasaragod.

The court, presided over by Additional Sessions District Judge K.N. Prashanth, imposed imprisonment under several sections. The two brothers were sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison, while their friend was sentenced to nine years. However, the sentences are to be served concurrently, meaning they will effectively undergo seven years of imprisonment.

The first two accused, who are brothers, have also been ordered to pay a fine of ₹2.20 lakh each, while the third accused has been fined ₹1.20 lakh. Of the fine amount, ₹5 lakh is to be paid to Fazlul Rahman.

According to the case details, after their marriage, Fazlul Rahman and Shahina, a native of Panniyur, lived in Payyanur. On January 20, 2019, Fazlul Rahman had gone to Kannur with his wife. While they were returning on a scooter, he dropped Shahina at Pushpagiri Oman Mosque so that she could offer prayers and proceeded ahead.

The prosecution case was that Fazlul Rahman was then intercepted and assaulted. He was subsequently forcibly taken on a motorcycle to a rubber plantation near the Panniyur Village Office, where he was allegedly subjected to a severe assault.

According to the case proceedings, Fazlul Rahman suffered a fracture to the bone in his knee as a result of the assault. The sentences and findings in the case are based on the court proceedings and the position presented by the prosecution.
