**Lahore:** Former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif has raised serious questions and allegations concerning Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson following the team’s disappointing performance against England in the Test series. Pakistan had removed Sarfaraz Ahmed from the coaching position after losing the first two matches of the Test series against England. The Pakistan Cricket Board subsequently gave Mike Hesson, who was already coaching the white-ball teams, additional responsibility for the Test side.

However, England have continued to establish a clear advantage in the third Test. In Birmingham, Pakistan were dismissed for 133 runs in their first innings, while England scored 453 runs in reply. It was after this performance that Rashid Latif spoke out against Hesson.

Latif has called on the PCB to conduct more detailed checks on coaches who join Pakistan cricket after working in leagues such as the Indian Premier League (IPL). Mike Hesson previously worked as a coach with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL and has also coached the New Zealand team.

Speaking on a YouTube channel, Latif said that security concerns regarding Mike Hesson were a separate issue, but argued that a foreign coach’s loyalty towards the team was an important consideration. He said he had no doubts about Bob Woolmer’s loyalty to the team. He also said he had no doubts about Geoff Lawson, noting that Lawson lived in Lahore and was committed to the team.

Latif said he did not question the coaches who came later either. However, he expressed doubts about a coach who had worked in the IPL before joining Pakistan cricket. According to Latif, there would always be questions about such a coach’s credibility.

Latif further said that Hesson might be loyal to the team, but his history should have been examined carefully. He claimed that Hesson’s direct connection with the IPL could allow people there to use him, adding that this was how agents emerged.

Mike Hesson joined the Pakistan team as coach in May 2025. Under Hesson, Pakistan reached the Asia Cup final but lost the title clash to India. Pakistan were also eliminated from the T20 World Cup without reaching the semi-finals. Following the Test defeat, Pakistan removed seven players, along with the head coach and bowling coach, in one move.
