Kochi: V. Shanthakumaran Nair, father of former Indian cricketer S. Sreesanth, died at the age of 89 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kochi on Friday night. He passed away at 9.44 pm. Shanthakumaran Nair was a retired Life Insurance Corporation of India zonal manager and hailed from the Ambatt Kunnel family in Mathirapilly, Kothamangalam.

His body has been kept at the hospital mortuary. The body will be taken to the ancestral home in Kothamangalam on Sunday after relatives living abroad arrive. The public viewing will be held at the Kothamangalam ancestral home from 10 am to 2 pm on Sunday.

The funeral ceremony will be held at 4 pm on Sunday.

Shanthakumaran Nair is survived by his wife, T.N. Savitr Devi. His children are Deepushanth, Nivedita, Divya and S. Sreesanth, the former Indian cricketer.His sons-in-law and daughters-in-law are Kalpana, Captain Sajith, Madhu Balakrishnan and Duvaneswari.The family will receive relatives, friends and others at the ancestral home during the public viewing hours on Sunday before the funeral ceremony later in the day.
