**Shahjahanpur:** A 22-year-old pregnant woman died after undergoing a Caesarean section at a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district, following allegations that one of the doctors who performed the surgery was under the influence of alcohol.

The deceased was identified as Julie, a resident of Kakarh village under the Puwayan police station limits. She was admitted to the private hospital on September 8 after experiencing labour pain. She reportedly reached the hospital on the advice of an ambulance driver.

According to the available information, Dr. Firoz called another doctor, identified as K.P., to perform the Caesarean section. Allegations were raised that Dr. K.P. was under the influence of alcohol at the time. Despite the allegation, he proceeded with the surgery on the pregnant woman.

Julie gave birth to a baby boy following the procedure. However, her health condition subsequently deteriorated. The doctor then advised that she be shifted to Bareilly for specialised treatment. However, the woman died while she was being taken to a hospital in Bareilly.

Police have registered a case against Dr. K.P. and Dr. Firoz under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in connection with the incident. The case follows allegations surrounding the treatment provided to the woman and the circumstances leading to her death.

Shahjahanpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Diksha Bhavare said that a detailed investigation into the incident has been initiated. The police are examining the circumstances surrounding the surgery, the subsequent deterioration in the woman’s health and her death while being shifted to Bareilly.

The allegations regarding Dr. K.P.’s condition during the surgery remain part of the investigation, and the police action is based on the case registered against the two doctors.
