**Thiruvananthapuram: **The Kerala government spent ₹245.62 crore from the public exchequer on lawyers’ fees for conducting various cases during the 10-year period of LDF rule, according to a response provided by the Advocate General’s Office under the Right to Information Act.

The information was provided to A.S. Mohammed Ashraf, a native of Urduur in Kasaragod, in response to his RTI application. The amount includes fees paid to senior advocates who appeared for the government before the Supreme Court, High Court, National Green Tribunal and Administrative Tribunal during the 2016-2026 period.

According to the response, the expenditure also covers legal proceedings related to the Governor-government confrontations, various legal opinions and payments made to lawyers for preparing drafts of legal amendments.

The government paid ₹38.91 crore in fees for 789 cases before the Supreme Court. Among the senior advocates who appeared for the government, Jaydeep Gupta received the highest amount. He appeared in 273 cases and was paid ₹8.91 crore.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal received ₹5.62 crore for appearing in five cases. The government also paid ₹92.65 lakh for obtaining legal advice from prominent lawyers, including former Attorney General K.K. Venugopal and Fali S. Nariman.
