**Kozhikode: **CPI General Secretary M A Baby said the contribution of the communist movement to Kerala cannot be forgotten and that the state’s achievements were driven by Left governments. He was speaking while inaugurating the three-day extended state committee meeting of the CPI in Kozhikode.

Baby said the Communist Party in Kerala, which began with four members, has a history of growing into a major mass movement. He said this history should not be overlooked when the committee discusses the party’s electoral defeat. According to Baby, the party’s duties and responsibilities will be greater in the future, and struggles carried out with vigilance will determine the future of India and Kerala.

The meeting will hold discussions and take decisions aimed at giving clearer direction and greater clarity to the CPI(M)’s future advances and activities. A programme of action will also be formulated to overcome the defeat in the Assembly election and expand the party’s influence among the people.

A total of 307 people, including state committee members, district secretariat members and elected office-bearers of various class and mass organisations, will participate in the meeting, which will continue until Tuesday.

A rally attended by one lakh people will be held in Kozhikode on Tuesday to mark the conclusion of the meeting. The rally will begin at 4 p.m. at Freedom Square on Kozhikode Beach. CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby, Politburo members Pinarayi Vijayan and A. Vijayaraghavan, and state secretary M V Govindan will address the rally.
