**New York: **German tennis star Alexander Zverev won the US Open men’s singles title after defeating American player Ben Shelton in a four-set final. Zverev secured victory with a score of 6–3, 7–6 (7–2), 5–7, 6–2, overcoming Shelton’s attempt to fight back after losing the opening two sets. The triumph gave Zverev his second Grand Slam title of the season.

The US Open victory is the second major title of Zverev’s career. Earlier in the same season, he had also won the French Open, where he defeated Flavio Cobolli to claim the championship.

Meanwhile, the United States’ wait for a men’s Grand Slam champion continues after 23 years. Andy Roddick was the last American men’s player to win a Grand Slam title, doing so in 2003.

The final began with Zverev taking control of the opening set. He moved 1–0 ahead, and when Shelton’s return landed in the net, Zverev extended his lead to 2–0. Shelton fought back strongly to make it 3–2, but Zverev eventually secured the first set 6–3 after a 40-minute battle.

Shelton made a strong start to the fourth set as well, but Zverev responded firmly and moved 2–0 ahead. Shelton, benefiting from home-court support, managed to bring the score to 3–2. However, as Shelton fell back, Zverev opened a 5–2 lead and left his opponent with no further opportunity. He completed the match 6–2.

Zverev initially appeared not to realise that the match had ended. He then welcomed his first US Open title without any major celebration, completing his second Grand Slam triumph of the season.
