**Kozhikode: **Shaju S. has been elected as the new chairman of the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society . The decision was taken at a meeting of the society’s Board of Directors. Chief General Manager K. Praveen Kumar has been assigned the responsibilities of the new Managing Director.

The election of the new chairman became necessary following the death of former chairman Ramesan Paleri. At the Board of Directors meeting, the leadership and significant contributions made by Ramesan Paleri to the growth, diversification and modernisation of ULCCS were remembered.

Shaju S. joined ULCCS as a clerk in 1997. After handling various responsibilities within the organisation, he served as secretary and Managing Director for 17 years from 2009.

His long experience and close understanding of the society’s operations and its different stages of growth are considered his major strengths. He was also actively involved in the formation and development of various affiliated institutions of the society, including UL CyberPark and UL Technology Solutions (ULTS).

Shaju S.’s family has a deep historical connection with the society. His grandfather S. Kanaran and father M. Pokkayi were members of the 14-member promoting committee that formed the Uralungal Society a century ago and were also founding members.

His father, S. Kumaran, worked as a labourer in the society and served for a long period as a leader before later becoming a director.The new leadership aims to realise the development concepts envisioned by Ramesan Paleri, continue his vision and take ULCCS to greater heights.

Shaju S. said the society aims to strengthen its presence in the construction and infrastructure sectors while expanding its operations outside Kerala, across different parts of the country and at the international level. The society also plans to make use of new opportunities in sectors including IT, real estate, tourism and hospitality.

The chairman said his governing board would give priority to adopting new technologies to improve operational efficiency, creating new employment opportunities, strengthening financial sustainability and ensuring the welfare of members and employees.

He added that the objective is to build ULCCS into a stronger, more sustainable organisation with a global presence while remaining firmly rooted in the values of workers’ cooperation.
