**Johannesburg:** Fear has gripped Johannesburg in South Africa after nine women were found dead within two months, raising concerns that a serial killer may be targeting women in the city. Police have not confirmed that all the killings were committed by the same person, but similarities in the cases have led investigators to consider the possibility.

Eight women’s bodies had been discovered in the Ekurhuleni municipal area since July. The body of a ninth woman was found on Thursday morning near Dawn Park, lying on the roadside and wrapped in a sheet. The woman was believed to be around 30 years old.

The first woman mentioned in the report was a 38-year-old who went missing after going out for an evening walk. Her body was found three days later near Kempton Park. Similar incidents followed, with the bodies of other missing women being discovered along roadsides several days after they disappeared.

According to the position of the police, similarities have been observed in the circumstances surrounding several of the deaths. The bodies were found partially naked and showed signs of injuries. Most of the women were also believed to have been victims of sexual assault. These similarities have raised concerns that the killings could have been carried out by the same perpetrator.

A large reward has been announced for information that could help identify those responsible. President Cyril Ramaphosa has said that the perpetrator or perpetrators will be brought to justice at any cost.

South Africa is among the countries with high levels of homicide. According to the official figure cited in the report, an average of around 60 people are killed in the country every day.
