**Kannur:** A Bangladeshi national who had been working at the strategically important Ezhimala Naval Academy has been held after authorities found documents allegedly used to establish him as an Indian citizen. The person was identified as 32-year-old Biplab Soren, whose name appeared on a fake Aadhaar card, according to the report.

He had also reportedly produced a fake police clearance certificate purportedly issued in the name of the Murshidabad Police in West Bengal. The man had been working in the laundry section of the Naval Academy for the past one year.

According to the report, authorities began monitoring him after becoming suspicious of his behaviour. Naval officers subsequently questioned him in detail. During the questioning and examination of his phone, documents indicating Bangladeshi citizenship were reportedly found.

Following this, the authorities handed him over to the Payyannur Police.

The incident comes two days after police detained five Bangladeshi women from a spa in Kannur. They were also reportedly found with fake Indian documents. According to the report, the women told police that more Bangladeshi nationals were working in the district while concealing their citizenship.

The report states that the developments have raised concerns over the use of allegedly fake Indian documents by foreign nationals working in the district. In the Ezhimala case, the person detained had reportedly been employed at the Naval Academy for about a year before authorities became suspicious of his conduct.

The subsequent questioning by Naval officers and the reported discovery of Bangladeshi citizenship documents on his phone led to his handover to the Payyannur Police, according to the report.
