**New Delhi:** Former Vice President Hamid Ansari has recalled a warning attributed to India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, that the country’s threat was not communism but Hindu right-wing communalism. Ansari made the remarks while delivering a memorial lecture in New Delhi for late A.G. Noorani, a prominent constitutional expert and political observer.

Ansari referred to Noorani’s 2019 book, The RSS: A Menace to India, during his speech. The book was published by LeftWord in 2019.According to Ansari, the lines written in the introduction to Noorani’s book accurately reflected the sense of insecurity and emotions experienced by the Muslim community in India today.

Ansari also pointed to a significant observation attributed to Jawaharlal Nehru and recorded by former Foreign Secretary Gundevi. He said Noorani had quoted the observation in his book as having been made by Nehru during a meeting of senior officials of the Ministry of External Affairs.
