Kochi: A 31-year-old woman died after falling onto the road from a moving bus near Thuruthippuram Cherupalath on National Highway 66 on Monday afternoon. The accident occurred at around 2.30 pm. Police have registered a case against the bus driver in connection with the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Vintumol, wife of Kunjithai Chilanga resident Sony. Vintumol worked as a lab technician at RK Hospital in Thuruthippuram. She had boarded the Rohini Kannan bus, operating on the Kodungallur–Paravur route, from a nearby bus stop after completing her work.

According to the information available, the doors of the bus were not closed when the vehicle was moving. As the bus proceeded over the bridge and took a turn, Vintumol reportedly fell through the open front door onto the road.

She sustained a deep injury to the back of her head in the fall. She was taken to Paravur Government Taluk Hospital for treatment but died from her injuries. The preliminary assessment is that she suffered serious injuries after hitting her head against the protective wall of the bridge during the fall.

Following the incident, the body was shifted to the mortuary of Paravur Taluk Hospital. The funeral is scheduled for 1 pm on Tuesday at St Francis Xavier Church cemetery in Kunjithai.

Vadakkekara Police have registered a case against bus driver Shinu Kuttan, a native of Puthenvelikkara, in connection with the accident. Further details are being examined as part of the police investigation.
