Three newborn babies have died following a fire that broke out at the Special Newborn Care Unit of the government-run Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Adilabad district of Telangana. Twenty other babies are currently undergoing treatment at different hospitals following the incident.

The fire broke out between Monday night and the early hours of Tuesday at the hospital’s newborn care unit. According to the preliminary assessment, the fire is suspected to have started after an air conditioner malfunctioned and exploded. However, authorities said that the actual cause of the fire would be known only after a detailed investigation.

Following the incident, 27 newborn babies who were receiving treatment at the Special Newborn Care Unit were shifted to various private hospitals. Of these, four babies were later taken home by their parents after their health condition improved. The remaining children continue to receive medical treatment at different hospitals.

Authorities said that the health condition of all the babies undergoing treatment is being continuously monitored. Medical care and observation are being maintained for the children following their transfer from the affected unit.

Fire and rescue personnel reached the hospital after the fire was reported and brought the blaze under control.Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the deaths of the newborn babies in the incident. He directed officials to ensure that the babies undergoing treatment receive the best possible medical care.

The Chief Minister also instructed officials to conduct a detailed investigation into the incident and submit a report. He further directed authorities to take the necessary precautionary measures to prevent similar disasters from occurring in the future.The exact cause of the fire remains subject to the investigation, while authorities continue to monitor the condition of the babies who were shifted to other hospitals.
