**Nagoya:** India won their first gold medal at the 20th Asian Games after the Indian women’s cricket team defeated Sri Lanka in the final. This is the second consecutive gold medal for the Indian women’s team at the Asian Games. Just days earlier, India had also defeated Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final to lift the title.

After winning the toss in the final against Sri Lanka, India elected to bat first and posted a massive 216 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs. Strong contributions from openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma, along with a late-innings assault from Richa Ghosh, helped India put up the imposing total.

Chasing a target of 217 runs, Sri Lanka struggled against the Indian bowling attack and were bowled out for just 69 runs in 15.4 overs. Captain Chamari Athapaththu offered the strongest resistance for Sri Lanka, scoring 29 runs from 21 balls. Apart from her, only Kaushani Nuthyangana, who scored 14 runs, managed to reach double figures.

For India, Deepti Sharma delivered an outstanding spell, taking three wickets in four overs while conceding only six runs. Sree Charani, Shafali Verma and Shreyanka Patil claimed two wickets each.

Smriti Mandhana was India’s top scorer with 79 runs from 45 balls, including seven sixes and five fours. Shafali Verma scored 48 runs from 29 balls, hitting three sixes and three fours.

Richa Ghosh provided a powerful finish, smashing an unbeaten 49 runs from just 22 balls. Her innings included three sixes and six fours and helped India reach the 216-run mark. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur contributed 19 runs before being dismissed.
