**Thiruvananthapuram:** Kerala Law and Order ADGP P. Vijayan has directed district police chiefs to ensure one mandatory day off every week for all police personnel, including Station House Officers . The directive is aimed at supporting the welfare of police officers and reducing mental stress. Police chiefs have been instructed to ensure that personnel receive their weekly leave while taking into account the nature of emergency services.

The directive states that each police officer’s weekly day off should be recorded in advance in the duty register. The measure is intended to ensure that officers have sufficient time to spend with their families and attend to personal needs.

The ADGP has also directed that police personnel should be granted leave on important family occasions. The circular specifically states that an officer’s entitled weekly day off should not be denied except in very urgent and essential circumstances.
