**Thiruvananthapuram:** The Kerala government has increased the limit for motor vehicle tax exemption available to persons with disabilities from ₹7 lakh to ₹15 lakh, Transport Minister C.P. John announced. The revised limit applies to the purchase value of vehicles bought by persons with multiple disabilities.

Previously, motor vehicle tax exemption was available for vehicles purchased by persons with multiple disabilities, including autism, cerebral palsy and intellectual disability, with a purchase value of up to ₹7 lakh. The state government had earlier provided the tax concession within this specified purchase-value limit.

The decision to increase the exemption limit to ₹15 lakh had been announced in the revised Budget speech for the financial year 2026-27. The latest move is part of the implementation of that Budget announcement, according to Transport Minister C.P. John.

The minister stated that the government has amended the Kerala Motor Vehicles Taxation Act as part of the process of implementing the Budget decision. The government has also revised the 2022 order related to the exemption and issued a new notification, he said.

Under the earlier provision, vehicles purchased by persons with multiple disabilities, including those with autism, cerebral palsy and intellectual disability, were eligible for motor vehicle tax exemption only when the purchase value was up to ₹7 lakh.

With the latest change, the purchase value limit has been raised to ₹15 lakh. The government’s amendment to the Kerala Motor Vehicles Taxation Act and the revision of the 2022 order were carried out as part of implementing the announcement made in the revised Budget for 2026-27, the minister clarified.
