**Kozhikode:** A Class 10 student, Sinan, reportedly spotted a leopard at Thaikkandimukku in Chekiyad, Nadapuram, prompting a warning to residents to remain vigilant. According to the information shared by Chekiyad panchayat president Ahmed Punnakkal, Sinan abandoned his bicycle and ran to safety after reportedly seeing the animal.

The panchayat president said that several people had reported seeing a leopard in the Chekiyad area. He also said that the police and Forest Department had been informed about the reported sighting. Through a voice message, Ahmed Punnakkal urged residents in the area to exercise caution.

Meanwhile, reports stated that an attack on Sinan and his grandmother at Kummankode in Nadapuram the previous day was confirmed to have been carried out by a leopard. The report said the matter was officially confirmed after footage emerged showing the animal running away along the wall of a nearby house following the attack. However, the Forest Department has not yet officially confirmed that the attack was by a leopard.

Sinan, who sustained injuries in the incident, is undergoing treatment at a hospital. According to the information available, the attack took place on Monday while Sinan was cleaning the area around a plot behind his house to pick papayas. The leopard, which was reportedly hiding in a pit nearby, jumped onto Sinan from behind.

Sinan managed to escape during a struggle with the animal. He suffered deep wounds on the back of his neck and below his ear, requiring more than 64 stitches. He also sustained several injuries on his back, chest and abdomen, reportedly caused by claw marks.

As Sinan later experienced increased pain in his shoulder and back, he also underwent an examination by the orthopaedic department. In view of the latest report of a leopard sighting in the Chekiyad area, the panchayat president has urged local residents to remain cautious.
