**Kochi:** The Vigilance conducted surprise raids at the Kochi office and residences of GST Joint Commissioner Prajani Rajan following a complaint alleging illegal collection of money and irregularities. The inspections were carried out at the GST Joint Commissioner’s office in Thevara and at two residences of Prajani Rajan in Pachalam Irattakulangara, Kochi.

According to the Vigilance, the inspection led to the seizure of Rs 14 lakh in unaccounted cash and 788 US dollars. The agency stated that the foreign currency found during the inspection was worth approximately Rs 75,000 in Indian currency. According to the position of the Vigilance, the cash was unaccounted for.

Prajani Rajan reportedly told the Vigilance that the money seized was her monthly income from her lodge. The statement was made in connection with the cash recovered during the inspection.The raid began at around 7:30 am on Saturday and continued until around 9 pm. The operation was led by a team headed by Vigilance Special Cell SP M. J. Sojan and DySP A. L. Yesudas. The raid was conducted after obtaining a warrant from the Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court.

The Vigilance had also received information about serious irregularities allegedly taking place in GST-related transactions at some bar hotels in Kochi city. According to the information available to the agency, Prajani Rajan had been under continuous Vigilance surveillance for some time.

In addition to the cash and foreign currency, the Vigilance also seized documents during the inspection. The raid was carried out as part of the investigation into the complaints and information received by the agency regarding alleged illegal collections and irregularities.
