KOZHIKODE: A Malayali groom married a bride from Mauritius at Chekkotta Temple in Valayam, Nadapuram, with the wedding taking place in the presence of both families and local residents. The simple traditional ceremony was held during the auspicious time between 10 am and 10.30 am today.

Harshin, the son of Harindran of Palloor in Kannur and Krishnakumari of Cheliyakelloth in Valayam, tied the knot with Vilasha, the daughter of Mauritius natives Colande Devallo and Sarojini. During the ceremony, Harshin applied kumkum on Vilasha’s forehead and accepted her as his life partner.

Harshin had travelled to Mauritius eight months ago for higher education. He was staying as a paying guest at the home of Colande Vela. After Vilasha informed her family that she liked Harshin, her family contacted Harshin’s parents.

Today was also the day on which Harshin’s sister Akshara’s marriage had been scheduled. Following this, both families decided to conduct Harshin and Vilasha’s wedding on the same day. As part of the arrangements, Vilasha and her family arrived in Kozhikode by air the previous day.

The wedding was held as a simple ceremony attended by members of both families and people from their local communities. A wedding feast was also organised this afternoon at the house built by the couple near the Chembakam Club premises in Valayam. The newlyweds will spend the next two days visiting tourist destinations in Kerala as part of their honeymoon. After that, they are scheduled to return to Mauritius with their families.
