KOVALAM: A law student died while undergoing treatment after attempting suicide at his home, with his relatives alleging that he had been subjected to repeated threats from a loan app. The deceased has been identified as Ahujith , also known as Akku, of Thunduvila Veedu in Shanthipuram, Thiruvallam. The Thiruvallam police have started an investigation into the incident.

According to Ahujith’s father, the family came to know about the loan app after receiving repeated phone calls on Ahujith’s mobile phone. He said the details were subsequently informed to the police.Ahujith, a final-year BCom LLB student at the College of Legal Studies, Cheruvarakonam, Parasala, attempted to die by suicide by hanging himself at his home on the 18th. He was admitted to a private hospital in the city for treatment. He died on Friday night while undergoing treatment.

The allegations regarding the loan app and the repeated phone calls were reported by Ahujith’s relatives and father, and the police have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.Ahujith was a CPI(M) Shanthipuram branch member and also served as the joint secretary of the DYFI Shanthipuram unit.

He was the younger son of G Ajikumar, a retired KTDC employee, and A R Ruby. He is survived by his elder brother, Sreejith Monu.The family’s Sancha­yanam ceremony will be held at 8 pm on Friday.
