**Idukki: **A nine-year-old boy died after a towel became entangled around his neck while he was playing at a window at a workers’ quarters in Churakkulam Estate, Vandiperiyar, on Monday morning.The deceased has been identified as Shainoor, the son of Assam natives Zakir Hussain and Shahida. According to the police statement, the boy’s parents had gone to work at the estate at the time of the incident, leaving no one at home.

A staff member from the local Anganwadi had arrived at the house to take the couple’s two-year-old younger child to the Anganwadi. The staff member reportedly told the police that she saw the children playing when she arrived.

According to the preliminary account, the incident is believed to have occurred when Shainoor put a towel on the window bars and was playing with it after wrapping it around his neck. The towel is believed to have become entangled around his neck, resulting in the fatal incident.

An inquest was completed under the leadership of Kumily Circle Inspector Jayan. Sub-Inspectors Akbar Sadath and Anoop were also involved in the inquest proceedings.The body was subsequently sent to Idukki Medical College for post-mortem examination.

As part of the investigation, fingerprint and scientific examination experts from Idukki reached the scene and collected evidence. A dog squad also visited the location as part of the investigation. Police are continuing the proceedings into the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
