KOZHIKODE: A decision to install a solar power system at a house in Kozhikode led to an unexpected discovery — a gold chain that had been missing for four years.The chain, weighing one sovereign, belonged to Fathima, wife of artist Basheer Chithrakoodam, a resident of Kuttiyavayal on Parappuram Road at Eravattur in Perambra.

Fathima lost the gold chain about four years ago. At the time, the family searched extensively around the house and the surrounding property but could not find it.The family had no clue about where the chain had gone and eventually stopped searching for it.

A few days ago, Basheer decided to install a solar power system at his home, hoping to reduce the household electricity bill.As part of the installation, workers initially dug a pit beside the house to install the earthing system. However, Kerala State Electricity Board officials inspected the arrangement and asked that the earthing be shifted to another location.

Although the additional work meant more effort, the family decided to follow the instruction.Workers then removed the stone slabs laid across the courtyard and began digging a fresh pit for the earthing system.

When the digging reached a depth of about one-and-a-half feet, something unexpected appeared beneath the ground — Fathima’s long-lost gold chain.Subeesh, an electrician from Kayanna who was carrying out the work, found the chain during the digging.

He immediately handed it over to Basheer.The discovery brought an unusual end to a four-year search that had begun after the chain disappeared from the house.

What started as a routine solar installation aimed at reducing electricity expenses ultimately helped the family recover the one-sovereign gold chain buried beneath their own courtyard for years.
